James Boddy

Purpose Matters was founded by James Boddy in 2015, as a platform to give effect to his own sense of purpose: to have the conversations that really matter. James partners with a number of trusted colleagues to deliver Purpose Matters' services.

Originally from the UK, James moved to the US in 2014. He holds a Master's degree from Harvard University in Human Development & Psychology, specializing in leadership and adult development. This gave him the opportunity to carry out detailed research into the nature of purpose in individual and organizational settings, and to develop a number of proprietary models focused on purpose development. He often speaks and writes on this topic.

James is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation, and a certified Integral Coach. He currently sits on the faculty of the Professional Coaching Course run by New Ventures West, and is a Senior Associate with Cambria Consulting.

As an executive coach, James supports his clients as they confront the demands of the modern workplace. He partners with his clients in support of their development, listening deeply and helping them find the way forward for themselves. Clients say that James is “intelligent and intuitive”, “very open, understanding and empathetic”, and that he is “incredibly adept at getting to the true heart of an issue and offering wise insight and practical steps to work with”.

As a facilitator and consultant, James draws on his wide-ranging experience in law and business to design and deliver powerful solutions for businesses, non-profits, and schools. Clients have commented that programs he has facilitated “made a huge impression”, that feedback was “universally positive”, and that “it was a pleasure doing business with you”.

James came to this work from a professional background that included 10 years as an employment law barrister in the UK, working initially at a leading set of chambers and then at a niche litigation firm. He also has business experience, as a director of a start-up legal claims business.
